ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jack Taylor was a journalist for 60 years, latterly as a foreign correspondent with Agence France-Press, who wrote an estimated six million words but never previously as a novel. This first book is based on his family history, mostly factual and verified by extensive research but with little flourishes of fiction to keep the novel rollicking along. The first two characters were his grandfathers who never knew each other in the trenches but became friends in the UK when the daughter of one married a son of the other. His father, his brother and his cousins all joined up in 1939 to fight the Germans.
